WHAT IS LOWER YOUR ELECTRIC RATE.COM?
Lower Your Electric Rate.com is a website portal which permits consumers to do comparison shopping among multiple supplier offerings.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
It costs nothing to lower your rate using the tools for consumers on this website.
HOW MUCH MONEY COULD I SAVE?
To estimate your potential savings use our >> electric rate comparison calculators.<<
WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE A PAPER COPY OF MY ELECTRIC BILL OR CAN NOT FIND MY ACCOUNT INFORMATION?
We highly recommend calling your utility company. They will always help you with this information.
We have provided LINKS to UTILITY COMPANIES >>HERE<<
HOW MUCH DOES A VARIABLE RATE CHANGE; CAN IT GO UP HIGHER THAN THE UTILITY STANDARD OFFER?
This is a parameter on which we base which suppliers we present to you. Example: in August, 2011, rates offered by >>Starion Energy and >>Spark Energy have been consistently the lowest of any available for the entire year. We make every attempt to only represent good and reliable values in our calculators.
WHAT'S MY POD NUMBER?
This number is required for some sign-ups. It is on your paper bill. If you don't have a paper bill, just place a call to your utility company and they'll give you the information. If you get stuck in an automated "support system," hitting zero often helps.
CAN I FIND MY POD NUMBER ON UNITED ILLUMINATING'S WEBSITE?
We have heard that customers have had problems finding their POD number on United Illuminating's website. Please call your utility company directly on the phone if you don't have a paper bill, and simply ask them for your account number and POD number, and any other information you may need. Here is our list of utility company >>LINKS<<
HOW DO I KNOW IF I'M ELIGIBLE FOR THE LOWER RATE?
This is very simple. All you need to know is WHAT is your UTILITY company? If you are a customer, for example, of Connecticut LIght & Power, or Baltimore Gas and Electric, you are eligible for a competitive rate. It's that simple. Go to the calculator for your state on this website >>HERE<< and see if your utility company is listed. If it is not, it is either not eligible, or we have not listed the information and rates yet, so please let us know you were looking by contacting us >>HERE<<
WHAT IF I'M ALREADY WITH ANOTHER SUPPLIER?
You need to know if there is an early termination fee. Most residential supplier offers do not have such fees.
WILL I STILL BE A CUSTOMER OF MY LOCAL UTILITY COMPANY?
Yes! Your supply rate will change, but you WILL still be a customer, and still be billed, BY your UTILITY company.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN THE SWITCH IS COMPLETE?
Allow about a week for the switch to be made, sometimes as long as two weeks. If the switch is made before your next meter read date, your next bill will show your new supplier's name, even though the bill will come from your utility company. Also, the new supplier will usually send an email as well as a welcome letter in the postal mail.
IS THE RATE FIXED OR VARIABLE?
Please refer to the supplier's terms, which are available to you during the sign-up process. A variable rate with no contract does not lock you in if the utility company lowers its rates. Most of the offers posted in the calculators on this website are for variable rates, and most with no contracts. This is because these are often the best rates available, and it allows us to compare apples to apples. Some rates posted here are fixed for a period of time and then become variable.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE UTILITY'S RATE AND A COMPETITIVE RATE?
The only difference is the price. The electricity is the same and is delivered the same way by the utility.
WILL MY UTILITY COMPANY TREAT ME DIFFERENTLY IF I SWITCH?
You will still be your utility's customer and they will treat you the same, no matter who your supplier is.
WILL I GET TWO BILLS?
No, not with any of the plans we have posted on this website. Billiing is done, as it always has been, by your utility.
WHAT IF I ALREADY SWITCHED TO A COMPETITIVE RATE?
If you have no contract, you are free to switch again. There is no need to call your utility or the other supplier.
I'M ALREADY WITH A COMPETITIVE SUPPLIER. DO I HAVE TO CANCEL IT MYSELF OR DOES THAT HAPPEN AUTOMATICALLY?
There is no action you need to take unless you signed a contract with your current supplier, which is unusual.
BUT THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS SAY I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR CANCELING MY EXISTING AGREEMENT WITH MY SUPPLIER.
That would be important if you had a contract with a supplier. Most residential programs are month to month, in which case your new supplier will be notified automatically that you have a new supplier.
HOW DO I SWITCH RATES? I DON'T SEE PECO ON MY BILL.
We do not list offers for every utility "territory." For example, you may be in a part of Pennsylvania we don't have offers for at this time. The offers we have are in the calculators. Your utility company name is shown on your electric bill. If we are not showing that same utility company in the #1 position on the calculator for your state, then we don't have offers for residents who are serviced by that utility. We are always adding more territories. >>Contact us to let us know where you live.
WILL MY ELECTRICITY BE INTERRUPTED WHEN I SWITCH?
There's no interruption of any kind. No physical changes are made. You will still be a customer of your utility company.
WHO DO I CONTACT IN AN EMERGENCY?
You should contact your utility company for emergencies and power outages.
For a
list of contact numbers click >>HERE<<
WHY DO SOME CALCULATORS SAY "RATE UPDATE IN PROGRESS?"
This means the calculator data is pending, and could be for several reasons. We may be researching rates to make sure they are up-to-date, a supplier has made a change, one or more suppliers are experiencing website issues, or the calculator is new to our site and will be ready for use in the future. >>Contact us if you have a question.
CAN MY BUSINESS GET A COMPETITIVE ELECTRIC SUPPLY RATE?
If your business spends less than $2000/month on electricity, use this site. Larger accounts go >>HERE.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MOVE?
If you move, you will have a "standard rate" at your new location unless you assume an account. You should shop for prices again.
WILL I LOSE MY SERVICE IF THE SUPPLIER GOES OUT OF BUSINESS?
No. Your electricity supply will automatically go back to your utility without interruption.
AM I LOCKED INTO A CONTRACT?
There is no contract with most residential supply service offers, but it is important to read the terms of service for the offer you choose, available for you to read on the sign-up page.
HOW DO I GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU?
For emergency service, billing and most customer service questions you should contact your utility company.
